Hi Class!

Great work during yesterday's class! You were all focused and driven and you made me very proud. Here are just a few reminders for our next class.

Homework due 7/12

1. Come prepared with debate note cards (Use bullet points! If you write full sentences or paragraphs, you will be tempted to read your entire speech).
2. For the speakers presenting an "appeal to emotion" or an "appeal to logic", make sure to bring your visuals.
3. Make sure to time yourselves as you practice delivering your speeches (time windows listed below).
4. Review your vocabulary words/key concepts (listed below).

Time Windows
Intro = 30 - 45 seconds
Contentions = 45 seconds - 1 minute
Closing = 30 - 45 seconds

Requirements
* properly uses rhetorical questions or anecdotes to grab the audience's attention
* provides information that is supported by articles
* displays visuals when necessary
* stays within time windows
* remains mindful of posture, voice projection, pronunciation/enunciation, stance, eye contact, and tone
* leaves out filler words

I know that this is a lot of information, but I believe that each one of you is prepared to deliver a successful presentation! I'm very excited to watch our first class debate and hope that you are as well. Rehearse your speeches and come to class prepared :). Remember that our AFF team won the coin flip and will be presenting first.
